Red Alert in Mumbai:- Mumbai Police have asked residents to avoid coastal and low-lying areas due to heavy rainfall that started on June 15 night and continued into June 16, 2025. The police shared on X, “Due to IMD’s heavy rain alert for Mumbai and suburbs, please avoid coastal and low-lying areas. Our teams are ready to help. Call 100, 112, or 103 for emergencies.” This advisory comes as the city faces challenges from the ongoing downpour.
Rainfall Disrupts Daily Life
The heavy rain, especially between 2 AM and 5 AM, hit South Mumbai and Western suburbs the hardest, leading to an orange alert from the weather department. Mumbai recorded an average of 95 mm of rain in 24 hours ending 8 AM on June 16, with 58 mm in Eastern suburbs and 75 mm in Western suburbs. Waterlogging has slowed traffic, and commuters are advised to plan extra travel time.
Flight Delays and Travel Alerts
The heavy rainfall has affected flights at Mumbai’s airport. IndiGo advised passengers to check flight statuses and allow extra time for travel. SpiceJet also warned that departures and arrivals may face delays due to the weather. Travelers should stay updated to avoid inconvenience.
Metro Services Briefly Hit
Mumbai Metro’s Ghatkopar-Andheri-Versova line faced a short disruption when a plastic sheet fell on overhead wires at Azad Nagar station. Services are now back to normal, as per Mumbai Metro One’s update on X.
